Laborers urge support for Edgewater Redevelopment effort
The Hammes Company has unveiled plans for a $107 million redevelopment of the landmark Edgewater Hotel on the shore of Lake Mendota in downtown Madison. The project will have a huge impact on area construction jobs, providing work opportunities for nearly 1000 area trades workers over the life of the project.
Wisconsin Laborers and other building trades have worked with the Hammes company on a number of highly visible construction projects over the years and deeply appreciate their commitment to quality projects and their respect for the workforce that builds them.
Not surprisingly, Hammes has agreed that all work performed on the project will be done at area standard wages and benefits. That promise speaks to the firm’s commitment to area workers, their families and the communities in which they live.
The Wisconsin Laborers' District Council urges members and friends of Wisconsin Laborers who live in the City of Madison to show support for this major private development by going to www.edgewater2012.com and signing the on-line petition.
Redevelopment of the Edgewater project presents a unique opportunity to transform an underutilized city landmark into a vibrant urban setting that will create value beyond the project for area residents and businesses. It deserves to go forward. And, with your help it will.
